Per-sq-ft pricing hands your margin to the customer's tape measure. You end up matching the cheapest guy in town and wondering why a 'busy' year ended with no profit.
The replacement
Build estimates bottom-up: materials, labor hours at a loaded rate, equipment, dump, real overhead — then your target margin on top. The number you get is the number. If it scares you, you were under-pricing before.
